Numerical Investigation on a Flash Flood Disaster in Streams with Confluence and Bifurcation

On 20 August 2019, a flash flood occurred in Sanjiang Town, Sichuan, China, and caused great damage to people living there. The town lies at the junction of five streams, with streams A, B, C combining further dividing into D E. slope is about 3~5%, while E around 0.3%. Town actually transition from supercritical subcritical slope. During flood, huge sediments were released C, transported stream Due rapid change velocity, only few deposited parts stream, plenty them sedimented In order simulate hydrodynamic model, field investigation was carried out collect high DEM (digital elevation model) data, marks, sediment grading, etc., after flood. discharge curve also obtained by hydrometric station near Town. Based on these adopted depth-averaged two-dimensional model coupled transport accident. results revealed that enlargement confluence mainly induced inflows, bifurcation largely affected deposition. flows can decrease peak each branch, but may increase flooded area streams.
